Tenby railway station

Tenby railway station serves the town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It lies on the Pembroke Dock branch of the West Wales Line operated by Arriva Trains Wales, who also manage the station. The only passing loop on the Whitland to Pembroke Dock branch is located at the station and as such east and westbound trains are often scheduled to pass here. There is however no longer an active signal box at the station and the electric token instruments for the block sections either side are operated by the train crew under the supervision of the Whitland signaller (a similar system operates on the Heart of Wales Line). Tenby has the first application of motor points worked directly by the token system.

The station was opened by the Pembroke and Tenby Railway as the terminus of the branch from the Pembroke direction in 1863,^[1] with the section eastwards to join the main line at Whitland following three years later.

Services

The station is served by the Swansea to Pembroke Dock local trains, which run roughly every two hours each way (with some additional peak services). Some early morning and late night trains run only as far as Carmarthen. First Great Western also operate here during the summer months, running two services to London Paddington and one from London (plus a second early morning service from Swansea) on Saturdays only.

There is also a limited Sunday service (five trains each way, one of which starts/finishes here) on the route.

Special charter trains also make a visit to Tenby, for 2011 the following are noted:

• Class 37 x 2 arriving at 2.38pm, leaving 4.48pm on Saturday 30 April 2011
• 6024 ‘King Edward I’ steam loco approx. 1.30pm heading west, and 3.54pm heading east on Sunday 1 May 2011
